Launch Week for DOHS New Students, Returning Students, and Parents

There are a lot of important events happening at the start of the school year!  Whether you’re a new student, returning student, or parent, there are multiple events happening for you!  Check out the events from Launch Week below, but please check the school calendar for all other upcoming events.

New Student Registration Days

  • What: Every new student will need to come to a Registration Day in order to get their course schedule, turn in all required enrollment paperwork, check in with all of their teachers, ensure that their computer has all required programs and applications, and more!
  • Who: All New Students starting 1st Quarter/Semester of the 2017-18 school year are required to attend their scheduled registration time (sign up below)
  • When: August 21st and August 22nd, students must sign up for a time using the link below.  All activities occurring during the registration time should take a family about 1 hour total to complete.
  • Where: Smedley Learning Center (4250 Shoshone Street, Denver, CO 80211)
  • Sign Up Here: Please sign up here and then plan to come during your scheduled time.  This sign up is on a first-come, first-served basis, with only five students able to sign up for each session time.  If a session time is full, please select your second choice.
  • What to Bring:
    • Proof of Residency: Please bring the latest utility bill from your residence
    • Laptop: If you will be using your laptop for schoolwork, please bring it so that it can be checked by our tech team to ensure it has all necessary updates and applications ready for you to have a great start to the school year.
    • $50 for Senior Fee: If you are a senior, please bring $50 in cash or a check for the senior fee.  This will go towards graduation costs.
    • Needed Information for MyDenver Card, Library Card, and Free/Reduced Lunch Applications:
      • DPS student ID numbers, school names, grades, and birthdates for each DPS student in your household.
      • Names and incomes of every member of your household.
      • If you have a SNAP case number from the State of Colorado, it must start with 1B. It is NOT the 10-digit number from your Colorado Quest Card.
      • The last 4 digits of your social security number.

STUDENT Orientation

  • What: Student Orientation prepares students to be successful by introducing them to the online programs, their teachers and peers, ways to get involved in the school, and extra credit earning opportunities.
  • Who: This is a mandatory three-day orientation for all incoming students so please ensure that you mark your calendars for this event.  Parents may attend this orientation but are not required to be there.  We instead highly encourage parents attend the New Parent Orientation (see below).
  • When: August 23rd-25th

o   9am-noon for 9th/10th graders by credit

o   1pm-4pm for 11th/12th graders by credit

 Returning Student Orientation

  • What: All returning DOHS students are required to attend this event to get set up for the academic year.
  • Who: Returning DOHS students and parents required to attend.
  • When: Thursday, August 24th, 5:00-6:30pm
  • Where: Smedley Learning Center auditorium (4250 Shoshone Street, Denver, CO 80211) in the cafeteria
  • What to Bring:

Back to School BBQ

  • What: Denver Online is hosting its annual Back to School BBQ, potluck style!  The school will be cooking up burgers, but please bring a side dish to share.
  • Who: All DOHS families welcome to attend!
  • When: Thursday, August 24th, 6:30-8:30pm

New PARENT Orientation

  • What: This orientation teaches parents how to navigate the online programs so that they can monitor their student’s progress, grades, and attendance.  It also introduces parents to faculty at Denver Online, to other parents, and to special opportunities for parents and their students (e.g. volunteer opportunities, tuition-free college credit, committees to serve on, etc).
  • Who: We strongly encourage all new parents to attend this event.
  • When: Wednesday, August 30th from 6pm-8pm
