What: This is a 5-part series of family nights hosted by Principal Ian Jones to talk more in depth with parents about how to overcome the challenges of raising a high schooler who might not fit into the traditional schooling system. This group will celebrate student differences and also offer tangible skills for parents to help students overcome the obstacles they face. These nights will also bring in guest speakers and touch on the book, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking. Books are available for participating individuals.
Our first parent workshop will be an informal conversation with our principal, Ian Jones, primarily focused on introductions and identifying the needs of the group. Our goal this year is to develop a strong network of parents who have experienced challenges as their children have entered high school either due to depression, anxiety or “not fitting into the traditional school environment.” The October workshop will include group introductions, an overview of programming/speakers that we can bring in to support our efforts and a brief overview of the book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain. We will bring in dinner and enjoy some time talking about Denver Online, its students, supports we have in place, and additional partners we can bring into the conversation.
