Message from Principal Ian Jones: School Closures and Plan Moving Forward

Please see the message below from Principal Ian Jones concerning school closures and Denver Online High School’s plan moving forward.

The Smedley Campus is open today, March 13 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and students are welcome to come in and meet with their teachers. There is NO GradPrep Friday scheduled today.

As you have likely seen, DPS has decided to close school buildings to students beginning Monday, March 16, 2020 through April 6, 2020. During the time the campus will be closed, essential personnel will do the important disinfecting that needs to be done to ensure the building is ready for staff to return April 6, and students to return April 7. The Denver Online team will be available remotely on Monday, March 17 and 18. More information will be forthcoming regarding support and communication during the closure as we are awaiting details and guidance.

We are still monitoring what this will mean for the school year, including calendar days and testing. Denver Online is also evaluating multiple scenarios moving forward and will work within DPS’s guidelines. We will share that information as it is available. Of course, all classes will remain open throughout the closure; so students will be able to work in their courses. We are looking at various scenarios related to course progress, staff support, etc. and will communicate those details no later than Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Please know that these decisions are difficult to make and have a lot of moving parts. The health and safety of our students, staff and famiilies is always the first priority.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility and understanding as more information comes! I know that this is a difficult time for all of the families in our community as there is much uncertainty and concern. Please take care of your families and yourselves! Should anyone have questions or need support, please feel free to reach out to me at or Schoology messenger.
