Mission Statement:
The mission of the Denver Online Counseling Department is to ensure that all students receive age appropriate personalized attention throughout each year of their high school career to ensure the highest level of potential success in the areas of Personal, Academic, and Career development.
Philosophy & Beliefs:
There are as many types of students at Denver Online High School as there are students. Each student comes to our school for different reasons and with different abilities and goals. At Denver Online High School no student is turned away and all students, regardless of racial, ethnic, cultural, cognitive, or sexual differences, deserve the opportunity to succeed. All students deserve the right to counseling services (group, individual, and classroom) provided by a state certified master’s degree level school counselor. All students have the right to be informed when making decisions about their education, career, and personal futures.
Guidance and Counseling Services:
The Denver Online High School counselor works with students to help them develop strategies for success in academics, in social skills, and in considering their post-high school plans and career options. The Counselor challenges students to become aware of their individual strengths, to develop methods for dealing with difficulties, to set goals, to make good choices, and to consider consequences. In addition, the Counselor provides the following services:
- Testing, which may include ACT, SAT, interest inventory and personality tests
- Counseling groups (topics to be determined)
- Counseling individuals
- Coordinating parent-teacher and/or student-teacher conferences
- Processing of report cards, school transcripts, recommendations, address changes and work permits
- Processing of referrals for additional services
