Jacob Smith: Convercent Tech Company Intern

Jacob Smith (16) is on the fast-track to success interning at Convercent, a start-up tech company who offers an application that helps companies integrate values, policies, and compliance. Originally, his aunt, who is an executive assistant at Convercent, helped him get a foot in the door for a summer internship. However, Smith proved his worth over that time and was asked to stay on as an intern during this school year.

Smith is currently working with the quality assurance team to help debug the application. However, he hopes to eventually move into developing the app itself. He desires to work full-time for Convercent, saying, “Not only is the field really cool, but it’s kind of where everything is heading.”

While there is a lot of work that goes into creating the app, the company still makes time for fun. Smith said he learned not to leave his computer open around the developers. “I love bunnies,” ended up being sent in a company-wide email from Smith’s computer a few times after he made the mistake. Smith’s dad also makes much of the furniture within the building. “It’s just like a huge family. Everyone knows everyone.”

With learning abilities ahead of the curve, Denver Online allows Smith to be challenged, “Learning at my own pace has been awesome…It’s been going a lot better than traditional school ever was.” Smith chose the online program because of its flexibility; not only can he complete schoolwork faster but he can do it from anywhere. He also says the teachers have been very helpful, especially face-to-face meetings and the ease of emails.

“I’m set to graduate by May. So if I keep truckin’ along, I’m definitely staying in online school,” Smith said.
