Rishel Campus

Denver Online Families,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the first days of Summer Break! This message is to update you about some exciting developments as we plan for the 2023-24 school year!

Over the summer Denver Online will be moving to a much larger space at the Rishel Campus (451 S Tejon St, Denver, CO 80223) to accommodate the relaunch of our personalized learning model. This  will provide students with weekly opportunities to come into the building for optional in-person support and socialization they need to be successful! Our goal is that we are able to truly meet students where they are – asynchronous online, synchronous online and in-person!

For the past 9 years, Denver Online has maintained our office and learning center at the Smedley Campus in northwest Denver. Since 2014, Denver Online has grown from 132 students in grades 9-12 to over 600 students in grades 6-12. During the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, Denver Online operated as an online enhanced blended model and had students coming to our learning center on a consistent basis. Moving to the larger space at the Rishel Campus will allow us to offer the in-person services we offered prior to the Covid 19 Pandemic.

Our team will have regular hours on campus to best serve the needs of all of our students. Our personalized learning model will include the following optional opportunities for students to come to the building:

  • Drop-In Learning Days (Weekly on Wednesdays) – Drop-In Learning Days are an opportunity for students to come to the Rishel Campus to work, connect and get support in an in-person setting. All staff will be in the building on these days to support students in making progress in their Schoology courses. When students come into the building on Wednesdays, they will create their plan for the day that includes what they will be working on, which staff they will see and identify where they need the most support. Students will be able to connect with their classmates and school staff. Students will be welcome in the building from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. School lunch will be available.
  • Quarterly Connection Days (Scheduled Quarterly on School Calendar) – One week each quarter will be dedicated to grade-level Connection Days. Students will have the opportunity to attend one Connection Day in person with their grade level during the designated week.. During these weeks, there will be no whole-class live learning as our focus will be on students who are coming to the building. The focus areas for Connection Days will be on school culture-building, social-emotional learning and connection, in-person learning experiences and college/career readiness activities. 6th grade and 9th grade will have an additional in-person “Kick-off Day” at the beginning of the year (6th – August 23, 9th – August 30) that will focus them on their success during the transitional years. Connection Days will occur between 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. School lunch will be available.
  • Flexible Support Days (Varies) – School staff will be on-campus additional time each week for the purpose of working students who may need additional individual or small-group support. As staff members are working with students in the online environment, they may work with the student/parents to schedule additional times spent in the building to ensure additional academic help is available. School lunch will be available.

All in-building time for the 2023-24 school year will be optional, but highly encouraged as we believe it is our responsibility to provide students with as much support as possible in service of their success. By implementing our personalized learning model, Denver Online will meet students where they are, online and in-person, in order to support self-directed learning where students can reap the benefits of blended learning experience!

Our team is excited to continue to work with your student(s) and family for the 2023-24 school year and beyond! We are even more excited at the possibility of having your student join us on our new campus as we venture back into our model for personalized learning! On behalf of all of us at Denver Online, I wish you a safe and restful summer!

Thank you so much for a wonderful school year!
